Faculty of civil engineering in Osijek
“Sculpture in Space” is probably the best name for the new building belonging to the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Osijek. The particular ambience created using light in limitless variations is located directly by the Drava River. Though ideal for enlightening student thoughts, we decided to separate the Drava from the faculty building using a waterproofing solution.
How we met the challenge
Investors placed particular importance on the properties, quality and durability of the used materials, and selected the DRACO solution for waterproofing the structure in the ground. The foundation slab was constructed on a DRACO BENT 500 bentonite membrane. It involves a waterproof membrane with bentonite granules between two layers of geotextile with its fibres blending into the surface of the poured concrete, thereby eliminating the possibility of water penetration. Given that the construction technology required waterproofing of the walls after concreting, the walls were first subjected to the DRACO LASTIC 150 polymer cement coating at the level of the ground surface, and then the DRACO BENT 500 membrane which along the terrain overlaps with the use of a coating, whereas foundation slab membrane overlaps with the wall base. The DRACO WATERSTOP 500 strip was applied to concreting edges which provided additional sealing of the joins and together with the DRACO BENT system provides a comprehensive waterproofing system. The use of the same waterproofing material for the base slab and walls provides continual and therefore total impermeability.
