Hotel Radisson Blu
Above Trstenik Cove, where the horizon is decorated with the Dalmatian karst island, the first Radisson Hotel in Split opened its doors to the public in 2010. This spacious and unobtrusive complex blends into the sea blue of the Brač Island channel perfectly, and equally so DRACO waterproofing systems integrated during the actual construction phase.
How we overcame the challenge
The Radisson Resort chain of hotels reveals its richness in understanding the wants and needs of its clients. The DRACO professionals have for over 20 years, much like Radisson, understood the needs of its clients by devising a functional and cost-effective solution for every waterproofing issue. The DRACO systems in the Radisson Blue Hotel were incorporated within the structure situated underground and on the balconies which ring the entire premises. The DRACO BENT 500 bentonite membrane was installed under the reinforced concrete foundation slab and on the underground walls and which were protected using a dimpled membrane prior to backfilling. Along the concreting sections, acting as an added seal, the DRACO WATERSTOP 500 swelling strip was used. The seamless placement of the same waterproofing on the floors and walls provides a seamless system, and therefore greater reliability. Waterproofing the balconies required selecting a waterproofing that was UV stable, resistant to mechanical and thermal action, and with an ability to be pigmented based on the architect’s wishes. The only coating that meets all of this is the DRACO GARD 500 polyurethane coating, also known as liquid rubber. This coating requires prior surface treatment using the DRACO PRIMO 520 primer which blocks moisture from reaching the coating from the substrate. All joins were additionally sealed using the DRACO BAND 120 self-adhesive strip.
