A German proverb says “…a barrel of wine is hiding many of the miracles”, and it’s really the miracle what came up in Motovun, thanks to the courage and vision of the famous Istrian winemaker, Mr. Mladen Rožanić.
So it is in the foothills of Motovun, on the place where was located the old, stone cellar, sprung a luxury hotel of almost 3,000 square feet and a wine cellar of 3136 m2. The hotel has a five star rating, 28 rooms, four suites, restaurant, bar, shop, Conference Hall, sauna and garage. Wine cellar includes space for production, fermentation and maturing wines, a wine storage and archive, space for a tasting and exhibition space.
This wine Temple combines the Istrian tradition and modernism, both in the use of materials and forms, and nearly two-thirds of the object is located under the surface! It had to be like that because the plot was too small for the expansion and introduction of new content so author of architectural solution, architect Idis Turato, decided to dig in.
It’s been a real challenge for DRACO engineers because it’s the object whose facilities are 70% built under the surface which means that waterproofing must be superbly designed and constructed.
We are extremely proud of this successful cooperation with Roxanich company whose result is a quality and long-lasting waterproofing of approx. 10 million euros investment and we are looking forward to a formal opening ceremony!
